Something is wrong. Who do I write to?

Noise, works that should not be there, rubbish, environmental damage, a neighbour making threats. In Costa Rica each of those belongs to a different institution, and sending it to the wrong one costs months. This site tells you which one, what to write, and what to gather first.

What is happening?

• Noise and loud music

  A bar, a house, a church or machinery that makes it impossible to sleep or work.

• Building despite a closure seal

  There is a visible “Clausurado” seal and the works are carrying on anyway.

• Construction with no permit posted

  Works with no permit sign, no visible drawings, or that do not match what was authorised.

• Rubbish, debris and sewage

  Build-up on public roads, informal dumps, sewage running into the street or the sea.

• Environmental damage

  Felling, wetland infill, earthworks, water pollution, wildlife, works inside a protected area or the maritime zone.

• Drugs being sold on the street

  A known dealing spot, offers to tourists, constant traffic at a house.

• Aggressive neighbours, threats, harassment

  Someone threatening you, repeatedly abusive, or making your life impossible.

• Trespassing and land occupation

  Someone has entered, fenced, planted or started building on land that is not theirs.

• I filed and nobody answered

  The institution does not answer, answers with nothing, or demands requirements that do not exist.

How it works

3. You answer a few questions and it builds the formal document, in Spanish, ready to send.
